<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dragonflies are more than just insects found around water bodies. Their presence can serve as a natural indicator of ecosystem health, particularly the quality of freshwater environments.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dragonflies belong to the order <em>Odonata</em>, which comprises true dragonflies (<em>Anisoptera</em>) and damselflies (<em>Zygoptera</em>). They inhabit a wide range of environments, including forests, gardens, rice fields, rivers and lakes.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Spending More Time in Water</strong></h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most of a dragonfly’s life cycle is spent as an aquatic larva or nymph, lasting from several months to several years. During this stage, dragonfly larvae prey on mosquito larvae, aquatic worms and other small organisms.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Because they require well-oxygenated and relatively clean water, dragonfly larvae are sensitive to changes in water quality. Pollution can reduce their populations, while improving water conditions can allow dragonflies to return.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="575" src="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-1024x575.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-337291" srcset="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-1024x575.webp 1024w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-300x169.webp 300w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-768x431.webp 768w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-1536x863.webp 1536w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-2048x1150.webp 2048w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-1080x607.webp 1080w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-1280x719.webp 1280w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-980x550.webp 980w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Neurobasis-chinensis-4-1-480x270.webp 480w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>A Natural Bioindicator</strong></h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Their dependence on both aquatic and terrestrial habitats makes dragonflies bioindicators—organisms that can help reveal environmental conditions. Changes in the abundance and diversity of dragonfly species can signal changes in habitat quality.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The greater the diversity of dragonflies found in an area, the stronger the indication that the aquatic ecosystem is capable of supporting a wide range of organisms.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="576" src="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Orthetrum-sabina-4-1-1024x576.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-337289" srcset="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Orthetrum-sabina-4-1-980x551.webp 980w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/Orthetrum-sabina-4-1-480x270.webp 480w" sizes="(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw" /></figure>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Part of the Food Chain</strong></h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dragonflies also contribute to maintaining ecosystem balance. Their larvae help control aquatic organisms, including mosquito larvae, while adult dragonflies prey on a variety of insects. At the same time, dragonflies serve as a food source for fish, birds, frogs, reptiles and bats.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As a result, a decline in dragonfly populations can affect the balance of the food chain.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Protecting Habitats, Sustaining Ecosystems</strong></h4>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Land-use change, water pollution, excessive pesticide use, and shifts in rainfall patterns and temperature can threaten dragonfly populations. Maintaining water quality, protecting wetlands, preserving vegetation along riverbanks and restoring habitats are important measures for supporting their survival.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In river rehabilitation and the reclamation of former mining areas, dragonfly abundance and diversity can serve as one of the indicators of ecosystem recovery.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ultimately, dragonflies remind us that environmental health can be reflected in the smallest creatures within an ecosystem. Protecting dragonfly habitats therefore also means safeguarding water quality, ecosystem balance and the many forms of life that depend on them.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Flash floods and landslides that struck several areas in South Tapanuli Regency disrupted road access, hindered residents’ activities, and obstructed the distribution of aid. In such circumstances, the restoration of infrastructure became an urgent necessity to enable community mobility and to ensure a comprehensive post-disaster recovery process.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As part of humanitarian support, Agincourt Resources, together with PT Macmahon Mining Services (MMS), deployed heavy equipment to assist infrastructure recovery simultaneously across several affected areas. This deployment aimed to reopen roads, clear landslide debris, and support the rehabilitation of the environment and community facilities.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In Garoga Village, Batang Toru Subdistrict, heavy equipment was focused on reopening roads blocked by landslide material, filling in subsided road sections, and reshaping safe routes for residents and aid teams. Additionally, support was provided for the revitalisation of the Garoga River, previously blocked by timber and mud carried by the flash floods. Clearing the river channel aimed to restore water flow and reduce the risk of secondary disasters.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At the same time, heavy equipment support was also provided in Tobotan and Tanopongol Villages, West Angkola Subdistrict, as well as in Marancar Subdistrict. In these areas, the equipment was used to open and repair affected roads, ensuring smoother mobility for residents, logistics vehicles, and emergency services.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Meanwhile, in Bandar Hapinis, Muara Hutaraja Subdistrict, heavy machinery was deployed to restore inter-regional road access that had been cut off. Restoring this access served as a vital route for community activities and facilitated the distribution of aid and essential needs for affected residents.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image aligncenter size-large"><img data-dominant-color="7c7c7f" data-has-transparency="false" style="--dominant-color: #7c7c7f;" loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="683" src="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-1024x683.webp" alt="" class="wp-image-320330 not-transparent" srcset="https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-1024x683.webp 1024w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-300x200.webp 300w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-768x512.webp 768w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-1536x1024.webp 1536w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-2048x1365.webp 2048w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-1080x720.webp 1080w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-1280x854.webp 1280w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-980x653.webp 980w, https://agincourtresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/IMG_0046-1-480x320.webp 480w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Beyond the restoration of roads and rivers, Agincourt Resources also supported the provision of temporary housing for disaster-affected residents. Through the deployment of heavy equipment, land clearing, soil preparation, and the organisation of temporary housing sites and supporting facilities were carried out. Overall, the construction of 267 temporary housing units is planned, with 70 units in the initial phase targeted for immediate occupancy.</p>
