Batang Toru, June 30, 2026 – A total of 10,000 ecobrick bottles created through community participation have now been transformed into the Ecobrick Park in Sopo Daganak, Batang Toru, South Tapanuli, North Sumatra. This initiative by PT Agincourt Resources has successfully diverted 2.5 tonnes of plastic waste while promoting a community-based waste management culture, marking the closing of the company’s series of activities commemorating World Environment Day 2026.

Damai Mendrofa, Chair of the Yamantab Waste Bank, stated that the achievement of producing 10,000 ecobricks is tangible evidence that community habits can be changed gradually. This milestone represents the first achievement of the “From the Heart for the Earth” Ecobrick Program, launched by PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) in 2025.

“Previously, household plastic waste was simply discarded. Now, community members collect it, sort it, and pack it into ecobricks. The result is something we can all see today: a park that can be enjoyed by the community,” said Damai during the official opening of the Ecobrick Park in Batang Toru, South Tapanuli, on Tuesday (June 30, 2026).

Beyond serving as the foundation of the park, thousands of the ecobricks have also been utilized as signage for Martabe Cocoa and Martabe Farm—PT Agincourt Resources’ local economic development initiatives located near Sopo Daganak.

This plastic waste collection and ecobrick production initiative involved the Yamantab Waste Bank and four other local waste banks in Batang Toru: Gocap, Satahi, Naposo Hamubaon, and Rap Hita Paias.

Katarina Siburian Hardono, Senior Manager Corporate Communications of PT Agincourt Resources, described the Ecobrick Park as a symbol of the circular economy principles that the company seeks to build together with local communities. Local waste banks have been actively involved in the initiative, with three of them are currently partners in the company’s community development program.

“The Ecobrick Park is more than just the result of plastic waste management; it is proof that meaningful change can begin with simple actions taken collectively. For us, the success of this program is measured not only by the number of ecobricks collected, but also by the growing awareness and habits within the community to manage waste independently and sustainably,” she said.

Communities Take Part in Environmental Monitoring

In addition to engaging communities in environmental conservation efforts, PTAR also encourages community participation in environmental monitoring. Within the conservation areas, a 14-member SMART Patrol team—some of whom are former hunters and illegal loggers—conducts daily patrols in the Aek Pahu and Ulu Ala Conservation Areas.

One of the team members, Parman Sitanggang from Wek 4 Village, has been working to protect the conservation area for nearly two years. He used to collect timber and hunt in the same area. During patrols, he records everything he observes in the field, including wildlife, signs of illegal logging, and hunting activities.

“If we find wildlife, logging activities, or signs of encroachment, we simply take a photo and record it in the application along with its coordinates,” he said.

On the other hand, monitoring the quality of treated water from the Martabe Gold Mine that is discharged into the Batang Toru River also involves representatives from communities in villages surrounding the mining area. One of them is Ali Marhot Siregar. A resident of Hapesong Baru Village, he has been part of the integrated water quality monitoring team since 2024.

“Water samples are collected from several monitoring points every month and then tested by an independent laboratory in Jakarta. The results are announced to the public every three months,” he said.

In addition to the opening of Ecobrick Park, PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) marked World Environment Day 2026 by organizing a Mangrove Conservation Clean-Up Action and an Artificial Coral Reef Construction Training program in Central Tapanuli, involving both community members and employees.

Behind its unique appearance, the Nepenthes plant, commonly known as the pitcher plant, plays an important role in maintaining the balance of tropical forest ecosystems. This carnivorous plant is recognised for its ability to trap insects using pitcher-shaped structures formed from modified leaves, making it one of the distinctive flora species found across the tropical regions of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia.

North Sumatra is considered an important habitat for various Nepenthes species. These plants can be found in lowland forests, peat swamps, and mountainous areas with high humidity levels. Several species identified in North Sumatra include Nepenthes gracilis, Nepenthes ampullaria, Nepenthes reinwardtiana, and Nepenthes sumatrana.

In addition to their distinctive appearance, pitcher plants also contribute to controlling insect populations and form an important part of tropical forest biodiversity. Their presence can even serve as an indicator of environmental conditions, as these plants are highly sensitive to habitat changes.

However, the existence of Nepenthes faces various threats, including habitat destruction, land clearing, forest fires, and illegal collection for ornamental plant trading. These challenges make conservation efforts increasingly important in preserving this unique flora.

As part of its commitment to biodiversity protection, Agincourt Resources continues to implement various environmental management initiatives around the operational area of the Martabe Gold Mine. These efforts include biodiversity monitoring, conservation area protection, as well as rehabilitation and revegetation programmes using native plant species.

Through regular flora monitoring activities, Agincourt Resources also documents the presence of various high-conservation-value plant species, including Nepenthes. In addition, the Company continues to support public awareness initiatives regarding the importance of preserving local flora through various environmental education programmes.

The existence of Nepenthes is not only part of North Sumatra’s rich biodiversity, but also a reminder that maintaining the balance of nature requires shared awareness and collaboration for a sustainable future.

In response to the urgent needs of communities affected by flash floods and landslides in Desa Garoga and surrounding areas, Kecamatan Batang Toru, Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan, North Sumatra, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has once again distributed humanitarian aid. The second round of assistance was delivered on 31st December 2025 through the logistics office of Agincourt Resources, which has served as the coordination and distribution centre since the onset of the disaster. The aid was handed over to the Government of Kabupaten Tapanuli Selatan and subsequently distributed to affected residents with operational support from Agincourt Resources as the government’s on-ground partner.

Batang Toru, 16 December 2025 – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has provided humanitarian assistance to victims of flash floods and landslides in Garoga Village and surrounding areas, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra. The assistance was officially handed over to the South Tapanuli Regency Government and distributed with operational support from PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR), the government’s local partner with established infrastructure, resources, and emergency response capabilities in the affected areas.

The handover of the assistance took place at PTAR’s logistics office in Batang Toru, which has served as a coordination and logistics distribution center since the beginning of the disaster to support the local government and relevant ministries. The assistance provided comprised 267 tents of various sizes, including 4×4-meter family tents, 10 jet cleaner units, chainsaws, mattresses, and emergency lamps to support the recovery of disaster-affected communities.

During the handover, a representative of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources symbolically presented the assistance to the Assistant for General Administration of the South Tapanuli Regional Secretariat, Triyanta Hadil Khoiri Dairiyawan, and the Head of Garoga Village, Risman Rambe, accompanied by the General Manager Operations&Deputy Director Operations of Agincourt Resources, Rahmat Lubis.

Triyanta expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for its attention and tangible support for the people of South Tapanuli, as well as to PT Agincourt Resources for providing operational support in the distribution of aid on the ground.

“Thank you to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for its concern and concrete assistance for the people of South Tapanuli. PTAR’s operational support has been instrumental in enabling the local government to distribute state aid more quickly and effectively, particularly to areas with limited access,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rahmat Lubis emphasized that PT Agincourt Resources fully supports the distribution of assistance from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through close coordination with the local government.

“With the resources, infrastructure, and emergency response teams we have, PTAR will distribute this assistance from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to survivors in Garoga Village and surrounding affected villages, through evacuation shelters coordinated by the South Tapanuli Regency Government. We operate under the guidance of the local government to ensure that the distribution is orderly, transparent, and reaches those most in need,” he said.

Since the disaster occurred, PTAR, together with the South Tapanuli Regency Government, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces and Police (TNI-Polri, PTAR’s Disaster Preparedness Team, the ESDM Emergency Response Group (ERG), and volunteers have established command posts, set up public kitchens, provided healthcare services, and deployed heavy equipment and helicopters to open access and deliver logistics to isolated areas.

Rahmat expressed hope that the additional assistance from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will further strengthen the support from the local government and business partners in restoring the conditions of communities affected by the floods and landslides in Batang Toru.

“This assistance not only strengthens logistics on the ground but also demonstrates that the central government, local government, and business partners are working in unison to accelerate the recovery of the community. At PTAR, we will ensure that every support entrusted to us truly reaches the people in need,” said Rahmat.

Support from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources strengthens the synergy between the central government, local governments, and business actors in the affected areas. PTAR is committed to continuing as a trusted government partner in supporting emergency response and community recovery efforts, in line with principles of responsible and sustainable operations.

Jakarta, 28 October 2025 – PT Agincourt Resources, the operator of Martabe Gold Mine, once again achieved remarkable success by winning two 2025 Subroto Awards from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The awards include the category of Innovative Mineral Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) through the flagship program Economic Independence Pillar: The Role of Bagas Silua in Advancing Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (UMKM), as well as an award in the field of Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) for Minerals.

The two awards were presented directly by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) to the Vice President Director of PT Agincourt Resources, Ruli Tanio, at the Subroto Awards main ceremony in Jakarta on Friday, 24 October 2025.

Ruli Tanio stated that this award is a recognition of the Company’s commitment to creating sustainable benefits for communities around the mine. The award also represents the Company’s contribution to good mining practice and compliance with fiscal regulations in the energy and mineral resources sector.

“In addition to being designed as a place to sell products from the UMKM we mentor, Bagas Silua has been developed as a local economic ecosystem to improve the community’s quality of life. We want to ensure that the people of Batang Toru and its surroundings have the opportunity to grow alongside us and remain self-reliant even after the mine ceases operations,” he said.

The Bagas Silua program is part of the economic independence pillar in PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) strategy. Through capacity building, market access, and product innovation, PTAR strives to create a sustainable community business model and support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 8, which focuses on economic growth and decent work.

Souvenir Shop

Christine Pepah, Senior Manager of Community at PT Agincourt Resources, stated that Bagas Silua, which means “Souvenir Shop” in the local language, is a PTAR initiative focused on the development of micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) in the Batang Toru and Muara Batang Toru districts of South Tapanuli. Its location is highly strategic, situated along the main route across North Sumatra Province, near the operational area of the Martabe Gold Mine.

“We want Bagas Silua to be a comfortable place for anyone to enjoy Batang Toru’s local cuisine while supporting local UMKM. We will continue to provide guidance and support to UMKM actors so that their products improve in quality and can compete in broader markets,” she said.

Launched in September 2024, to date, 32 partner UMKM under PTAR’s guidance have marketed their products at Bagas Silua. The product range includes local culinary specialties such as taro chips, dried bananas, watermelon chips, and purple coconut root, as well as local fashion items like South Tapanuli batik and ecoprint fabrics. All Bagas Silua products can also be easily accessed through the website bagassilua.id and its official Instagram account.

In addition, the gallery offers screen printing and modern packaging services to help business owners enhance the competitiveness of their products. Each month, dozens of products are sold, generating total transactions amounting to tens of millions of rupiah.

“With the support of the local government and the communities surrounding the mine, we hope Bagas Silua can become a symbol of local economic and cultural empowerment,” said Christine.

Strengthening environmental awareness among students has become a key focus in supporting sustainable education. On 16 October 2025, a socialisation of the Ministry of Environment Regulation Number 5 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of the Adiwiyata Programme was held, alongside a Training of Trainers (ToT) activity for Adiwiyata programme facilitators across 13 schools. This initiative aims to ensure that teachers and facilitators understand the Green Generation (Gen Hijau) extracurricular programme and can act as mentors for Adiwiyata student cadres in their respective schools.

The event, which was opened and closed at State Junior High School 1 Batang Toru, took place from 13–15 October 2025 and was held alternately across several schools by the Semut Merah mentoring team. The activities included the socialisation of the Minister of Environment Regulation No. 5 of 2025, a Training of Trainers (ToT) competition for Adiwiyata programme mentors, technical guidance for the Environmentally Aware and Cultured Movement in Schools (GPBLHS), and preparation strengthening towards Adiwiyata Mandiri. Meanwhile, students and Adiwiyata cadres received training on the Gen Hijau extracurricular ToT programme and environmental management, covering topics such as waste management, plant care, water and energy conservation, and greening innovations.

The activities were presented by representatives from the North Sumatra Provincial Environment and Forestry Office and marked the first time such a programme was held for Adiwiyata schools in North Sumatra. Other schools, including those managed by the Tapanuli Selatan Regency Environment Office, were also invited. During the programme, the Semut Merah team organised a microteaching competition for Adiwiyata programmes as an initial assessment stage, to be followed up in November through the submission of learning videos.

The Head of Environmental Protection and Management Division at the Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHD) of South Tapanuli Regency, Herman S. Siregar, explained that this programme has a highly significant impact, namely shaping students’ character to be environmentally conscious and capable of contributing to environmental preservation, enabling them to become agents of change within their communities. The DLHD of South Tapanuli Regency expressed its appreciation to Agincourt Resources for providing guidance to 13 schools since 2023. He expressed his hope that this initiative will serve as a role model for other schools in South Tapanuli Regency.

The socialisation and training successfully fostered enthusiasm among schools and students in caring for the environment. Students have become more disciplined in sorting waste and demonstrate genuine concern for the cleanliness and sustainability of their school surroundings. With ongoing guidance, environmental values are expected to be firmly embedded as part of a sustainable Adiwiyata culture.

The schools participating in the programme included State Elementary School 100707 Perkebunan Batang Toru, State Elementary School 100712 Hapesong Lama, State Elementary School 100714 Garoga, State Elementary School 100715 Telo, SDS 100910 IT Faza Azkia, State Junior High School 1 Batang Toru, State Junior High School 2 Batang Toru, State Junior High School 1 Muara Batang Toru, State Junior High School 2 Muara Batang Toru, State Islamic Junior High School 3 Tapanuli Selatan, State Senior High School 1 Batang Toru, State Vocational High School 1 Batang Toru, and State Vocational High School 2 Batang Toru.

Batang Toru, 29 September 2025 – Since 2011, thousands of North Sumatra residents have regained their sight thanks to PT Agincourt Resources’ (PTAR) Free Cataract Surgery program. More than just an annual social activity, this initiative has grown into a legacy of the company’s dedication to improving the quality of life of communities around the Martabe Gold Mine. In 2025, the program, themed “Open Your Eyes, See the Beauty of the World,” returns with a target of 1,400 eyes for the surgery on across five locations, starting at Bhayangkara Hospital Batang Toru, South Tapanuli.

PTAR General Manager of Operations & Deputy Director of Operations, Rahmat Lubis, stated that the opening of this series of operations is an important momentum for expanding access to eye health cares for the community, especially those who have difficulty in reaching medical services. A number of cataract patients living in the direct affected village of Batang Toru and Muara Batang Toru also benefited from this program.

“Cataracts often lead to a loss of productivity and independence. Through this program, we aim to restore hope and improve the quality of life for communities, particularly those living in the direct affected villages surrounding the Martabe Gold Mine,” he said.

Read Also : 569 Students is Awarded the 2025 Martabe Prestasi Scholarship, Agincourt Resources Disburses Rp5.97 Billion

During the cataract surgeries held in Batang Toru from 26–28 September, a total of 357 cataract cases were successfully operated on. The surgeries will continue in Batang Toru on 3–5 October, followed by RSUD Pandan on 17–19 October, RSUD Sipirok on 24–26 October, and RS Mata Siantar on 21–23 November. The series of operations will conclude at RS Mata Mencirim 77 Medan on 29–30 November.

Since it was first launched in 2011 and continuing until 2024, the PTAR Free Cataract Surgery program has operated on 12,173 cataract eyes belonging to 10,684 people.

Head of the South Tapanuli Health Office, dr. Sri Khairunnisa, expressed her appreciation for PTAR’s consistent support of community’s health.

” Since its launch, this program has expanded beyond the region and delivered significant benefits to the community. PTAR’s support is demonstrated not only through the cataract surgery initiative but also through various other programs in the health sector,” she said.

She expressed her hope that the program would be sustained, enabling its impact to reach and benefit a greater number of communities across other regions.

One of the cataract patients who had just undergone surgery is Endang Siregar, 49 years old. For the past 10 months, the resident of Perkebunan Batang Toru village had experienced vision problem due to cataracts.

Household chores became increasingly exhausting, and even her small home-based business of selling was disrupted. When she got the information about the free cataract surgery program initiated by PTAR, the mother of three children and grandmother of one grandchild registered herself.

”I choose to undergo this surgery because I want to see clearly again and enjoy the beauty of the world. I also hope to be able to sell food from home again and return to normal activities, particularly enjoying precious moments with my family and grandchild,” Endang said.

The surgery, which lasted only about 10 minutes, initially made her anxious. However, she realized that having the courage to undergo the procedure was an important step toward opening up opportunities for a better life.

” After the surgery, I feel deeply grateful and happy as my vision has started to improve. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Martabe Gold Mine for providing this free cataract surgery, which means so much to me and the people of Batang Toru,” Endang said.

The implementation of Martabe Gold Mine’s free cataract surgery program involves close collaboration with various parties, including Bhayangkara Hospital Batang Toru, Pandan Regional General Hospital, Sipirok Regional General Hospital, Siantar Eye Hospital, Mencirim 77 Medan Eye Hospital, and the South Tapanuli District Health Office.

In addition to restoring vision, this program is part of PTAR’s commitment to the 3rd Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), which aim to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for people of all ages. For PTAR, the community’s health is an integral part of responsible and sustainable mining practices.

Batang Toru, July 25, 2024 – The Martabe Prestasi 2025 Scholarship Program, initiated by PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR), has achieved the highest record by attracting 569 students from South Tapanuli and Padangsidimpuan, North Sumatra. PTAR has disbursed Rp5.97 billion to support education from elementary to university level for outstanding children from underprivileged families.

A number of scholarship recipients for the 2025/2026 academic year have successfully gained admission to prestigious universities in Indonesia, such as the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), and the Astra Polytechnic.

General Manager Operations & Deputy Director Operations of PT Agincourt Resources, Rahmat Lubis, believes that the Martabe Prestasi Scholarship is part of PTAR’s efforts to support students who have a high learning motivation but face economic limitations.

“By providing greater access to education, we aim to nurture future leaders, especially from the surrounding community of the mine, who will contribute meaningfully to the nation and society. Guided by this commitment, we have consistently implemented the Martabe Prestasi Scholarship program for students in South Tapanuli and Padangsidimpuan, now entering its ninth year,” said Rahmat while attending the awarding ceremony of the Martabe Prestasi Scholarship Program at Sopo Daganak, Batang Toru, on Friday (July 25, 2025).

The Martabe Prestasi Scholarship Program also contributes to achieving the 4th Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), which is to provide inclusive, equitable, and quality education at all levels.

“This program is in accordance with our commitment to sustainable mining practices, particularly in contributing positively to society through various initiatives, including the advancement of human resources via educational development,” said Rahmat.

This commitment is proven by PTAR’s consistency in awarding scholarships to 2,697 students, with the total of Rp18.79 billion, since 2017 until 2025. The number of scholarship recipients and the total scholarship budget for the 2025/2026 academic year are the highest in the 9 years of implementing the Martabe Prestasi Scholarship.

The Head of the South Tapanuli Education Office, Arman Pasaribu, expressed his appreciation for PTAR’s consistency in supporting the world of education.

“We sincerely appreciate PTAR’s continued commitment to advancing the quality of education, particularly in the communities surrounding its operational areas. It is our hope that this scholarship program will deliver tangible benefits to our children and inspire them to contribute meaningfully to the region’s development in the future,” he said.

One of the scholarship recipients, Aisyah Pardede, intends to use the financial assistance to cover her tuition fees and daily living expenses while pursuing her studies at Diponegoro University. Coming from a modest family, supported by her father’s work as a firewood farmer, Aisyah stated that the scholarship from PTAR has given her renewed hope to continue her education and achieve her aspirations, despite the economic challenges she faces.

“am deeply grateful to receive this scholarship, which enables me to continue my education and pursue my aspirations for the future. My sincere thanks to PTAR,” said Aisyah, a graduate of SMAN 2 Plus Sipirok.

A similar feeling is expressed by Azwa Wirawan Siregar, first-year Geological Engineering student at the University of Indonesia from Sisundung Village, Angkola Barat District, South Tapanuli. He believes that PTAR’s educational support is a valuable opportunity that allows him to focus on his studies and enhance his skills without placing a financial burden on his parents.

“This assistance eases the financial load on my family and motivates me to study with greater focus and confidence,” he said.

In addition to the Martabe Prestasi Scholarship Program, PTAR consistently conducts various capacity-building initiatives in the education sector, including the Focused Learning Program, teacher training, and opening a Basic Mechanic Course in collaboration with the UT School.
