2024 Breakthrough: Agincourt Resources Launches Filtration Plant — Efficiency and Capacity Take Center Stage

Apr 14, 2025

The year 2024 marks a significant milestone for PT Agincourt Resources in advancing operational efficiency and sustainability through the construction and commissioning of a Filtration Plant at the Martabe Gold Mine. This facility stands out as one of the most pivotal achievements of the year, strategically addressing the challenge of managing tailings—residual materials from gold extraction—while simultaneously paving the way for long-term mining development.

For context, tailings are the residual by-products of the gold extraction process, which were previously deposited in a wet state into the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF)

For context, tailings are the residual by-products of the gold extraction process, which were previously deposited in a wet state into the Tailing Storage Facility (TSF)—a method in place since the inception of the project. However, as production volumes have grown, the TSF has gradually approached its capacity limit. In response, Agincourt Resources has introduced an innovative solution through the development of the Filtration Plant.

The Filtration Plant employs cutting-edge technology from Diemme Filtration, utilizing an automated filter press system with plates and specialized filter cloths. With a targeted capacity of 2.6 million tonnes of tailings per year, the plant is designed to produce filtered tailings with a moisture content of approximately 15%, resulting in a nearly dry material that can be stacked to engineered heights.

In contrast to conventional methods, dry tailings storage offers greater flexibility in spatial and structural management.

In contrast to conventional methods, dry tailings storage offers greater flexibility in spatial and structural management. This allows for controlled and efficient thickening of tailings, significantly reducing reliance on the TSF. Instead, the filtered tailings will be placed in the newly developed dry storage facilities: the Tailing Management Facility (TMF) and Alternative Tailing Facility (ATF), both of which are becoming key components of tailings management at the Martabe Gold Mine.

This initiative not only extends the operational lifespan of the TSF but also ensures the continuity of mining operations without capacity constraints. The Filtration Plant plays a critical role in maintaining smooth production processes and enabling future expansion and increased output.

However, the current capacity of the Filtration Plant remains limited and is not yet sufficient to process the mine’s total tailings output. As such, the development of additional filtration units has been incorporated into the Company’s long-term planning to ensure that all tailings can be optimally processed and stored.

This facility aligns with Agincourt Resources’ vision of becoming a world-class, sustainable gold mining company, committed to delivering positive outcomes for all stakeholders. The Filtration Plant stands as a tangible embodiment of this vision—not merely a technical investment, but a strategic commitment to a more organized, efficient, and sustainable mining future.
