Adolescence is a time of boundless curiosity and a strong desire for exploration, including the thrill of riding a motorcycle to school. Unfortunately, many young riders still lack a solid understanding of the importance of safe and responsible riding behavior. In response to this concern, Agincourt Resources, in collaboration with PT Indako Trading Coy North Sumatra and PT Astra Honda Motor (AHM), organized a Motorcycle Safety Training on Tuesday, 22 April 2025. The event took place at Sopo Daganak and SMA Negeri 1 Batang Toru, with over 270 participants in attendance, including students from SMA Negeri 1 Batang Toru, members of the Sahabat Cerdas Association (PERSADA), children’s reading garden (TBA) facilitators, and representatives from the Community Department of Agincourt Resources. Representing the company’s management was Masdar Muda, Manager of Community Relations.
The training went beyond theory, it instilled a sense of awareness and empathy on the road. Through an interactive and engaging approach, certified instructors from AHM and Honda Japan, Sofiyan Hazri, Eka Yolahati, and Wan Muhammad Fahreza—taught essential riding techniques such as hazard prediction, proper braking, and maintaining a safe distance. “Accidents can be prevented,” Hazri emphasized, highlighting that the key lies in courteous and ethical riding behavior.
More than just a training session, the event sparked critical dialogue and awareness among participants. Khaerani Harahap, Principal of SMA Negeri 1 Batang Toru, revealed that approximately 204 students ride motorcycles to school despite not having a valid license. “They are still searching for identity and often want to appear bold on the road, even reckless at times. This is why early education is so crucial,” she explained. Meanwhile, Dastri Sejoli, Chair of PERSADA, shared her reflections: “Until now, we only knew how to ride, but not how to ride correctly and safely.”
Through this initiative, Agincourt Resources reaffirmed its commitment not only to strengthening ties with the education sector and community partners but also to actively contributing to a culture of safety on the road. Ultimately, promoting safety is an act of care, not just for oneself, but for fellow road users who seek joy in the ride and the comfort of arriving safely at their destination.
