Agincourt Sends Emergency Rescue Team To Care for Semeru Disaster Victims

Assistance handover from Martabe Gold Mine to the Regional Agency for Disaster Management of Lumajang District at the disaster location of Mount Semeru eruption. 

Batangtoru, 16 December 2021 — PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR), operator of Martabe Gold Mine, sent Emergency Response Team and logistics assistance to support disaster victims and recovery handling after the Mount Semeru eruption, in Lumajang, East Java. 

The eruption of Mount Semeru occurred on Saturday December 12, 2021 and the team, which was dispatched on Monday, 6 December 2021, consisted of one team leader, one medical personnel, and two Search and Rescue personnel. The team is trained to help relieve communities affected by disasters and was directly in charge in the Joint SAR Post with the team of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. 

Hari Ananto, Senior Manager Environment, Health, Safety & Training Development of PTAR, outlined the operation: 

Although the PTAR operational area is in South Tapanuli, North Sumatra which is far away from the disaster location, we had been called to help the recovery of our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster of Mount Semeru eruption. As together in this nation, we are concerned and invite our brothers and sisters affected by the disaster to rise again. Under the coordination of Emergency Response Group from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, we hope to ease the burden on the victims.

The PTAR Emergency Response Team acted in conjuction with 43 volunteers of Astra Heavy Equipment, Mining, Construction and Energy of United Tractors Group Cares for the Disaster of Mount Semeru Eruption. 

Furthermore, Hari explained, the team members who were dispatched had been trained and provided with handling various emergency situations including fire, accidents, search and rescue, medical evacuation, and incidents with mass victims. Moreover, the team also brought other various logistics assistance such as drinking water, masks, tents, blankets, instant noodles, energy drinks, bread, and medicines. 

This team, which has several times won rescue competitions, had previously been deployed to disaster locations such as the eruption of Mount Sinabung in 2014, earthquake in Pidie, Aceh in 2016, earthquake in Lombok in 2017, earthquake in Palu in 2018, and tsunami in Banten in 2018, each time addressing the many emergency needs of disaster victims. Hari gave some details of the Semeru Disaster response: 

We also handed over the logistics assistance to the Regional Agency for Disaster Management of Lumajang District. In the field, our team with Emergency Response Group of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources were particularly assigned to help and search for victims in Sumberwuluh Village of Candipuro, providing triage medical checks of any victims.
