At the 2024 International Mining Geology Conference of The Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM), Agincourt Resources’ Senior Mine Geologist Mine Grade Control Ade Triyunita presented a paper titled “Strategies for Enhancing Ore Control and Production at Martabe Gold Mine.” This presentation, a result of continuous learning within Agincourt Resources’ Mine Geology Department, highlighted the importance of combining geological understanding with data-driven practices to achieve efficient and sustainable mining operations. The presentation was recognized as one of the Best Presentations at the conference.
Agincourt Resources’ Mine Geology Department has implemented a targeted strategy to improve the productivity of the Martabe Gold Mine. The primary challenge lies in finding the most effective formula for managing various conditions, including complex ore classification, potential misclassification, blast quality, and stockpile management. This is done to maintain a stable supply of ore to the mill and operational productivity.
This strategy encompasses steps outlined in a systematic workflow that falls under the department’s core responsibilities. Each step in this strategy plays a crucial role in achieving the optimal end result, which is the reconciliation stage. Reconciliation serves as a ‘measuring tool’ to assess the performance of mining, processing, and the models used. Therefore, the Mine Geology team routinely conducts monthly reconciliations as a final task to evaluate the effectiveness of their strategies.
This systematic approach allows the Mine Geology team to identify and address various issues that arise during the mining process. This ensures that the mine operates efficiently and produces high-quality products. As a result, reconciliations have shown figures that are increasingly approaching the tolerance limit for good reconciliation and reasonable reconciliation. In 2024, the Martabe Gold Mine has a target of 7.2 million tons of ore to produce 233,000 ounces of gold with a target recovery rate of over 95%.
Striking a balance between geological complexity and operational efficiency is paramount for successful mine production. The approach implemented at the Martabe Gold Mine, which focuses on continuous learning, data integrity, innovative technological solutions, and continuous improvement, serves as a valuable example for the mining industry.
