Agincourt Resources, in collaboration with the Sukakeswan (Animal Health Volunteer Group), officially inaugurated the first integrated biogas installation in Batang Toru District on Saturday, 10 May 2025, located in Aek Bustak, Sumuran Village. This installation converts cow manure into biogas for cooking and organic fertilizer for agriculture—marking a tangible step towards the development of a community-based, environmentally friendly integrated livestock system.
Rohani Simbolon, Community Development Manager at Agincourt Resources, explained that the initiative reflects the Company’s commitment to sustainable livestock waste management. “What was once considered waste is now a valuable energy source, offering dual benefits to the community. This is a concrete manifestation of our commitment to sustainability and community empowerment,” she stated.
Three biogas units have been constructed—each located in Sumuran Village, Aek Pining Sub-district, and WEK II Sub-district—utilizing waste from approximately 120 cows. In addition to reducing reliance on Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), the installations are capable of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to ±90 tons of CO₂-equivalent per year—comparable to emissions from 40 four-wheeled vehicles—and saving around 87 cylinders of 3-kilogram LPG annually.

Yeni Lubis, Head of Data and Information Section at the South Tapanuli Agriculture Office, expressed her appreciation for the innovation. “We can now see the concept of zero waste coming to life in rural areas. Waste becomes a blessing, and the community gains access to clean energy and improved agricultural output. We are ready to support the expansion of this program,” she said.
Meanwhile, Sukiman, Chairman of the Sukakeswan Group, shared how the project has directly benefited residents. “We used to struggle with where to dispose of cow manure. Now we can turn it into gas for cooking and fertilizer for crops. We’re already seeing the results,” he remarked.
