In this initial phase, 341 patients underwent surgery on a total of 357 eyes, supported by a medical team from RS Mata Mencirim 77 in collaboration with local healthcare workers. The strong turnout reflects the community’s pressing need for affordable and high-quality eye healthcare services.
All patients followed a structured medical process, beginning with registration, blood pressure and blood sugar checks, medical consultation, and administrative procedures. This was followed by sterilisation before entering the operating theatre. After surgery, patients received education on post-operative care.
The following day, patients returned for bandage removal, and the administration of eye drops as part of ongoing aftercare. This procedure is designed to ensure optimal recovery while reducing the risk of complications.

Since its inception, the free cataract surgery programme has restored the sight of thousands of people. By regaining their vision, patients are expected to live more productive and independent lives, improving their overall quality of life.
One of the patients, Endang Siregar, 49, from Perkebunan Batang Toru, shared her experience:
“After ten months of impaired vision due to cataracts, this free surgery has truly reopened my world. I can now carry out daily activities normally, resume selling from home, and enjoy time with my family. My sincere thanks to Martabe Gold Mine for this immensely meaningful programme.”
This first phase marks a crucial step towards achieving the overall 2025 target of 1,400 eyes, and stands as a tangible demonstration of Agincourt Resources’ commitment to enhancing public health in South Tapanuli and North Sumatra.
