Supporting the Establishment of Temporary Shelters for Residents Affected by the Batang Toru Floods

As a demonstration of its concern for communities affected by flash floods in Batang Toru Sub-district, South Tapanuli Regency, Agincourt Resources has supported the establishment of temporary shelters through the provision and installation of hundreds of tents supplied by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The temporary shelter area is located behind the Batu Hula Command Post.

The temporary shelters have been developed on approximately 1.4 hectares of land, with a total of 144 tents installed. The tents vary in size—4 x 6 metres and 6 x 6 metres—and are designed to accommodate approximately six to eight people each. In addition to residential tents, supporting facilities such as communal bathrooms and public kitchens are also planned to meet the basic needs of displaced residents.

The establishment of the temporary shelters is the result of close collaboration between the Ministry of ESDM, the local government, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), and Agincourt Resources. The Company’s support has focused on technical aspects on site, including land preparation. Heavy equipment has been deployed to clear the area, level the ground, and compact the soil to ensure the site is safe and suitable for temporary habitation.

Senior Manager Community of Agincourt Resources, Christine Pepah, stated that the Company’s involvement forms part of its support for the Government’s efforts to accelerate post-disaster recovery. She emphasised that cross-sector collaboration is essential to ensure emergency response efforts are carried out effectively and in a coordinated manner.

“We are working closely with the local government, the Ministry of ESDM, as well as the TNI and Polri in preparing these temporary shelters. Once the land was prepared by the Government, we supported the site clearance and land levelling until the tents could be erected,” she said.
