Jakarta, 3 October 2023 – PT Agincourt Resources, the operator of the Martabe Gold Mine, received recognition from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of the Republic of Indonesia for its implementation of good mining practice and the benefits of community development and empowerment programs. Evidently, four Good Mining Practice (GMP) Awards and one Subroto Award were taken home.
At the 2023 GMP Award event which took place on 29 September, PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR) won a gold symbol award, namely the Aditama Award in Technical Management Aspect of Mineral and Coal Mining which was handed over directly by the Director of Engineering and Environment of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi to the President Director of PTAR Muliady Sutio.
“Thank you for the awards and appreciation we received today. We believe that implementing good mining practices can provide benefits for all stakeholders, including improving the welfare of communities around the mine site,” said Muliady.

According to him, the operational activities of the Martabe Gold Mine always refer to the Ministerial Decree of Energy and Mineral Resources Number 1827 K/30/MEM/2018 concerning Guidelines for Implementing Good Mining Practice. This ministerial decree serves as a guideline for the company in carrying out – among other things – environmental management by utilizing efficient resources; good social responsibility efforts; use of technology; mining conservation activities in optimizing measurable, efficient, responsible and sustainable mineral utilization management; processing and refining; to post-mining plans.
Apart from receiving the Aditama Award in the Technical Management Aspect of Mineral and Coal Mining, PTAR won three Main Awards at the 2023 GMP Award, namely in the Mineral Conservation Management Aspect, Mineral Mining Environmental Management Aspect, and Mineral Mining Standardization and Service Business Management Aspect. Not only that, PTAR won the highest Subroto 2023 Award in the form of a trophy in the Most Innovative Community Development and Empowerment of Mineral Sector – MetalsCategory, Real Income and EmploymentIncrease Sector Sub-Category.
“This appreciation will be our motivation to continue implementing good mining practice guidelines throughout the life of the Martabe Gold Mine,” said Muliady after attending the 2023 GMP Award.
In his speech, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif said that business entities and mining services that have implemented good mining practices are expected to be able to face several challenges, such as mining transparency and accountability, the energy transition that affects the mining industry, and price fluctuations and increasingly limited reserves.
“This challenge requires the use of mining technology that is effective and efficient. Hopefully the companies that have received this award can become role models for the mining industry in Indonesia and continue to provide optimal contributions to Indonesian society,” he said.
The assessment of the implementation of good mining practice at the 2023 GMP Award event was carried out on the performance of 2022. This assessment was attended by 13 mining business entities holding Contracts of Work (COW), 33 mining business entities holding PKP2B, 30 mining business entities holding Mining Business Permit (IUP) for Foreign Capital Companies, 224 mining business entities holding IUP for Domestic Capital Companies, 20 mining business entities holding IUP for State-Owned Enterprises, 9 mining business entities holding IUPK, and 65 mining business entities holding IUJP.
Sustainable Agriculture
The Certified Superior Rice Seed Breeding Farmer Program in Batangtoru Sub-districtled PTAR to win the 2023 Subroto Award in the Most Innovative Community Development and Empowerment of Mineral Sector – Metals Category, Real Income and Employment Increase SectorSub-Category. The Subroto Award is the highest award given by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to stakeholders who have performed the best in advancing the Energy and Mineral Resources sector in Indonesia. This award is the highlight of the 78th Mining Anniversary commemoration.
Vice President Director of PT Agincourt Resources, Ruli Tanio, said the Company has various Community Development and Empowerment programs, including agricultural programs for certified rice seed breeder farmers, which have significantly contributed to government programs and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) second goal, namely promoting sustainable agriculture.
“In carrying out the Community Development and Empowerment program, we certainly look at the needs of the community, and strive to create jobs based on local potential to increase income and reduce the unemployment rate of the productive age in the directly affected areas. This Subroto award is an infinite appreciation for our efforts in contributing positively to the communities around our operational area,” said Ruli.
PT Agincourt Resources Senior Manager Community, Christine Pepah, added that the certified superior rice seed farmer program in Batangtoru, which started in 2016, began with the Permata Hijau Farmers Group in Sipenggeng Village, continues to develop until 2023, and has involved 43 farmers in six villages. From 15 hectares of planting area, they harvested more than 37 tons. Total purchases of grain from breeder farmers reached IDR 203 million, while total sales of certified superior seeds reached IDR 263 million. Of course, this long process can only be achieved thanks to the cooperation and hard work of all parties and stakeholders who play an active role in this program.
“We hope that this program can become a model of economic independence through an agricultural cluster approach which will then become a reference for learning at the South Tapanuli District level. This program has also begun to create reliable and competent agricultural actors in improving the village economy through activating productive clusters based on village potential,” said Christine.
