SENIOR ENGINEER – PROJECT CONTROLS (MPDE 2607017)

This position is located at the Martabe Site within the MPDE Department and reports directly to the Lead Engineer – Project Controls.

The role of the Senior Engineer – Project Controls is to:

  • Provide project controls expertise through planning, scheduling, monitoring, analysing, and reporting project progress, with a strong focus on forecasting and proactively influencing project time and cost outcomes.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain project planning, scheduling, and reporting systems to support individual projects and the overall project portfolio, including engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) activities.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, Project Managers, Site Managers, and other key stakeholders to develop and maintain project schedules aligned with the appropriate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Identify activities that may critically impact project schedules, prepare Schedule Impact Reports, and communicate potential risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Analyse schedule variances and slippages, and recommend corrective actions and recovery plans to minimise project delays.
  • Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely sharing of project information and alignment on project objectives.
  • Monitor and update project schedules, key milestones, and overall project completion forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare accurate and timely weekly and monthly project progress reports for management and project stakeholders.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate project performance and support informed decision-making.
  • Assess the impact of design changes, scope changes, and other project variations on schedules, resources, and project costs.
  • Provide project controls support to Project Managers and Site Managers throughout all phases of project execution.
  • Participate in project scheduling reviews, including Integrated Baseline Reviews (IBRs), subcontractor schedule validations, and internal or external quality audits.
  • Review and report schedule changes, identify deviations from the baseline, and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Support the Cost Engineering function through cost and progress tracking, forecasting, target control, and performance reporting.
  • Perform schedule and cost variance analysis, trend analysis, and key driver analysis to support project performance improvement.

Candidates for this position are expected to meet the following qualifications and criteria:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum 6 (six) years of relevant professional experience, including at least 2 (two) to 3 (three) years in Project Planning and Scheduling using Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  3. Demonstrated experience supporting project execution within mining, construction, EPC, or similar project-based environments. Experience in site-based roles is highly desirable.
  4. Strong ability to develop and maintain project schedules by collaborating effectively with Project Engineers, Project Managers, contractors, and other key stakeholders.
  5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all organisational levels.
  6. Proficient in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
  7. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with Power BI or other reporting tools will be an advantage.
  8. Previous experience in the mining industry or other large-scale industrial projects will be highly regarded.
  9. Sound understanding of Project Controls principles, including planning, scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, and performance reporting.
  10. Good understanding of the full project lifecycle, from project initiation through engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project close-out.
  11. Demonstrated ability to assess the impact of scope changes, schedule changes, and execution risks on project performance.
  12. Strong knowledge of project reporting requirements, including progress measurement, schedule performance, cost performance, and baseline management.

High attention to detail, with a strong appreciation for data integrity, change management, and timely communication to support effective project decision-making
