Sharing Sustainable Mining Practices Through ESG Seminar for Regional Journalists

To continue disseminating understanding and knowledge related to sustainable mining practices, particularly those conducted by Agincourt Resources as the operator of the Martabe Gold Mine, dozens of regional journalists from Padangsidimpuan, South Tapanuli, Sibolga, and Central Tapanuli participated in the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) Seminar on “Implementation of ESG Aspects for Sustainable Mining”. The seminar was held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Hotel PIA, Pandan, Central Tapanuli.

This seminar featured three speakers, namely Agincourt Resources’ Manager of Community Development, Rohani Simbolon, who presented on “The Role of PTAR’s PPM Program in Economic, Health, and Education Development,” the Environment Manager with the topic “ESG Adaptation through De-carbonization & Biodiversity Conservation to Approach Sustainable Mining,” Prof.Dr.Ing. Ternala Alexander Barus, a Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of North Sumatra, who discussed “PT Agincourt Resources’ Aquatic Biota Survey,” and Sustainable Finance & ESG Consultant at Trisakti Sustainability Center, Leonard Tiopan Panjaitan, who addressed “Challenges and Opportunities of ESG in the Gold and Silver Mining Industry.”

The event was opened by Deputy General Manager Operations, Wira Dharma Putra. “Agincourt Resources is committed to implementing sustainable mining practices through various ESG initiatives. Through this seminar, we aim to share the understanding of how important these ESG aspects are for sustainability. This seminar is also crucial for enhancing the competencies of journalists.”

Senior Manager Corporate Communications, Katarina Siburian Hardono, stated that this ESG seminar is part of a capacity-building program for journalists across Indonesia, as well as a training ground for regional journalists to compete in the 2024 Journalism Works Competition. In addition to attending the seminar, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, journalists were also invited to visit various PPM programs initiated by Agincourt Resources, including the Mangrove Conservation Area “Dari Hati untuk Bumi” in Pandan, Lubuk Larangan in Garoga Village, Sarop Do Mulana Cooperative, and Imaji Cerdas Berkarya (ICB) Cooperative. Another beneficiary groups visited included SMK Negeri 2 Batangtoru, superior rice seed breeding in Sipenggeng, Batik Tapsel and Bator Craft, Batangtoru Health Center, and Sopo Daganak.
