Agincourt Resources demonstrates its commitment to building disaster-resilient communities. This time, Telo Village, Batang Toru District, is the focus of the formation and capacity building of volunteers of the 10th Disaster Resilient Village (Destana) program. The two-day activity, held on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 24-25, 2024, is a result of collaboration with the Tapanuli Selatan Regency Government, the Sumatra Utara Provincial Forum of Disaster Resilience Facilitators (F2KB), and the Tapanuli Selatan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Agincourt Resources also provided supporting equipment including one post tent and two units of folding stretchers.

Agincourt Resources Superintendent of Community Relations, Sugeng Maskat, explained the main objectives of the Destana program. “A Disaster Resilient Village is a village that has the independent ability to identify, understand, and anticipate potential disasters in the region. As well as being able to organize the community to reduce vulnerability and at the same time increase the community’s capacity to cope with and reduce disaster risk,” he said.
The Destana program is one of the strategies for realizing the mandate of with Law Number 24 of 2007 on Disaster Management. Through this program, it is hoped that the people of Telo Village will be better prepared to face various types of disasters that may occur.
Safri Nasution from the Sumatra Utara Provincial F2KB, who was one of the speakers at this event, emphasized the important role of the community in building resilient villages. “The community is the frontline in disaster management. With adequate knowledge and skills, the community can reduce the negative impacts of disasters,” he said.
