On Monday, January 13, 2025, the inaugural planting for the watermelon cultivation initiative took place in Hutabaru Siagian Village, Batangtoru District, South Tapanuli Regency. A total of 0.4 hectares of land in the village has been designated as the initial site for this program, which aims to enhance the community’s economic resilience through the agricultural sector.
During the event, four local farmers received direct guidance from an expert from Petani Aktor Milenial (PAM), Riskon Mulyadi. They underwent practical training on seedling techniques, watermelon seed care, efficient planting methods, and pest and disease control using appropriate pesticides and fertilizers. Farmers were also taught best practices for harvesting and post-harvest management to maximize productivity.

This initiative has a broader goal of establishing Hutabaru Siagian Village as a new watermelon production center, targeting a total yield of 5 tons per planting season. The four participating farmers are expected not only to gain expertise in watermelon cultivation but also to implement sustainable agricultural methods, such as organic compost production and environmentally friendly pest management practices.
Agincourt Resources plays a vital role in the success of this program by providing technical assistance, training facilities through field schools, and production resources, including organic fertilizer, chemical fertilizer, mulch, fungicides, herbicides, and insecticides.
