Jun 27, 2025

As part of its long-term commitment to biodiversity protection, PT Agincourt Resources, the operator of the Martabe Gold Mine, is poised to construct an environmental research station within the Batang Toru Ecosystem in South Tapanuli Regency. This strategic initiative will bolster the company’s contribution to scientific advancement while simultaneously supporting sustainable conservation amidst active mining operations.

The planned research station is slated for development on a 10-hectare plot within the Batang Toru Ecosystem. This facility is envisioned to serve not only as a research center but also as a vital platform for education, training, and innovation related to environmental management and biodiversity, particularly within the context of sustainable mining practices. Students, researchers, environmental activists, and the general public will subsequently have the opportunity to engage in direct field learning, grasp the critical importance of maintaining ecological balance, and actively participate in various conservation programs.

For the implementation and ongoing management of this station, Agincourt Resources will forge partnerships with a diverse array of stakeholders, ranging from universities and governmental bodies to environmental organizations and local communities. A variety of activities will be facilitated at the station, including wildlife and vegetation monitoring, research pertaining to climate change, and community-based educational programs. This multi-stakeholder involvement is anticipated to strengthen synergies and broaden the impact of holistic, comprehensive, and sustainable conservation efforts.

The establishment of this research station is underpinned by four primary objectives:
1.Conservation and Preservation
To serve as a research hub supporting nature conservation and preservation initiatives, thereby strengthening the equilibrium between mining operations and ecosystem protection.
2.Education and Training
To provide a learning and field practice environment for students and researchers, while simultaneously encouraging community engagement in addressing environmental issues.
3.Science-Based Management
To become a source of scientific data that supports evidence-based decision-making in environmental and biodiversity management.
4.Ecotourism and Edu-tourism
To develop the area’s potential as an educational and ecological tourism destination, thus contributing to sustainable tourism.

The development of this research station also aligns seamlessly with Agincourt Resources’ strategic theme, “Living in Harmony.” This concept underscores the crucial importance of aligning mining operations with responsibilities pertaining to social, environmental, and occupational safety aspects. This commitment is further reflected in various conservation programs already undertaken by the company within the Batang Toru ecosystem. These initiatives include the construction of canopy bridges for primates, the reintroduction of endemic (native to the region) wildlife into their natural habitats, tree seedling propagation and planting, and regular patrols to monitor biodiversity conditions.

Agincourt Resources firmly believes that the success of environmental preservation efforts cannot be achieved in isolation. Collaboration with all stakeholders is paramount. Therefore, the company extends an invitation to individuals, local communities, academics, environmental organizations, and government bodies to collaboratively safeguard Indonesia’s natural wealth, particularly within the Batang Toru region. This synergy is expected to pave the way for a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
