Ecobrick Awareness Campaign Begins: Agincourt Resources Drives Tangible Community Action

Jul 14, 2025

A tangible step toward environmental preservation can begin with something as simple as a plastic bottle filled with compacted inorganic waste, an ecobrick. On Monday, 14 July 2025, Bank Sampah Yamantab (BSY), through its Ecobrick Task Force, launched the community outreach phase of the Ecobrick program in Kelurahan Pasar Baru and Kelurahan Sibuluan Terpadu, Central Tapanuli. The campaign continued on Thursday, 17 July 2025, at the Aek Pining Village Office, Batang Toru.

The initial session was held at a local resident’s home in Pasar Baru and attended by 30 participants from the surrounding community. Also present were representatives from the Central Tapanuli Environmental Office (DLH), village heads, and a delegation from Agincourt Resources, represented by Gio Armansyah, Supervisor of Campaign & Event Management.

The Ecobrick program is part of Agincourt Resources’ initiative titled “From the Heart, 10,000 Bottles for the Earth,” launched in commemoration of World Environment Day 2025. Beyond financial support, Agincourt Resources actively facilitates community education to ensure the program runs smoothly and delivers meaningful benefits.

“Ecobricks are not entirely new to residents around BSY. However, this year we aim to broaden our reach and structure the initiative more effectively. Our target is to collect 10,000 ecobricks from three key areas,” explained Damai Mendrofa, Director of BSY and Coordinator of the Ecobrick Task Force.

Community members are encouraged to participate not solely due to the incentive, IDR 6,000 per bottle, but out of a shared sense of environmental responsibility, particularly in managing plastic waste. The program will run for six months, from June to December 2025.

During a demonstration session, participants were introduced to the specific standards required for an ecobrick: bottles must be clean, dry, intact, and weigh at least 200 grams. These standards are essential to ensure that the ecobricks can be effectively used as an environmentally friendly building material.

The DLH representative welcomed the initiative and praised Agincourt Resources for its active role in supporting community-based plastic waste management. “We hope the public embraces this as a collective movement to mitigate the impacts of plastic waste,” said Hamilkani from the Central Tapanuli DLH.

As a company consistently prioritizing environmental sustainability in its operations, Agincourt Resources continues to extend its positive impact beyond the mine through various community-based initiatives. This commitment is evident in efforts such as the ban on single-use plastic bottles since 2011, integrated waste management through the Waste Sortation Facility (WSF), and the production of eco enzyme, maggot, compost, and recycled furniture. Through its active involvement in the ecobrick program, the company fosters a culture of responsible waste management at the grassroots level. Agincourt Resources hopes that more residents will engage in the program and adopt ecobricking not merely as a one-time activity, but as part of a sustainable lifestyle for a healthier planet.
