Self-Managed Waste Oil Recycling Innovation, Agincourt Resources Wins EPSA 2025

Sep 3, 2025

Batang Toru, September 3, 2025 – PT Agincourt Resources (PTAR), operator of the Martabe Gold Mine, won the Gold Award in the Eco-Hazard Innovation category at the Eco-Tech Pioneer and Sustainability Award (EPSA) 2025, organized by Diponegoro University. The award recognizes PTAR’s success in processing 155.25 tons of used lubricating oil with hypobaric fraction separator technology, thereby reducing Global Warming Potential (GWP) by up to 441,975.09 tons of CO₂-eq.

Rahmat Lubis, General Manager Operations & Deputy Director Operations of PT Agincourt Resources, stated that PTAR consistently applies more energy-efficient mining and gold processing practices through various innovations in both systems and production equipment.

Moreover, materials no longer used in operations are repurposed for other activities. For instance, used lubricating oil that was previously sent to hazardous waste storage facilities (TPS LB3) is now managed independently.

“The EPSA award is a recognition of our commitment to strengthening the implementation of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles in support of the government’s net-zero emission efforts. Our target is a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 from the 2019 baseline. We will continue to pursue environmental management innovations in line with government regulations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said Rahmat.

The “Utilization of Hypobaric Fraction Separator for Recycling of Used Lubricating Oil” program enables up to 80% of used lubricating oil to be reused as a fuel substitute in explosives, replacing diesel. Through heating, filtration, low-pressure fraction separation, and cooling technology, the used lubricating oil is successfully refined into a safe material for use.

“In addition to reducing environmental impacts, this innovation also creates efficiency through the application of circular economy practices. It represents our contribution to supporting the achievement of SDG 12 on responsible consumption and production,” said Rahmat.

PTAR also received a Gold Award for the program “Closed-Loop Energy Reclamation with Intelligent Torque Control (ITC) in the Ore Grinding System.” In 2024, this program reduced electricity consumption by 4,931 GJ and saved IDR 1.69 billion in electricity costs.

In total, PTAR brought home seven awards at the EPSA 2025 event, held in Semarang, Central Java, on August 31, 2025. In addition to the two Gold Awards, the company also received three Silver and two Bronze Awards.

The Silver Awards were granted for “Utilization of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC) Waste into Trash Bins”; “Optimization of Water Pollution Load Reduction (BPA) for Copper (Cu) Parameter Using Selective Chelator”; and “Leanslope Pit Ramba Joring Innovation: Haul Road Redesign.”

Meanwhile, the Bronze Awards were presented for “Development of Bagas Silua Gallery Business Unit”; and “Conservation of Jurung Fish (Neolissochilus thienemanni) through Ecosystem Engineering with the BioFAD Model.”

Wijayanto, S.IP., M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Rector IV for Research, Innovation, Cooperation, and Public Communication at Diponegoro University, stated that the world’s greatest challenges today are disinformation and environmental degradation. If not addressed seriously, these issues could have severe consequences for civilization. In this context, EPSA was established to recognize companies that demonstrate dedication to delivering environmentally friendly innovation and technology.

“EPSA is not merely an appreciation event, but a symbol of synergy toward green and sustainable development. On behalf of the Rector of UNDIP, we congratulate all award recipients,” he said.

The EPSA recognition adds to PTAR’s track record of achievements, alongside the Green PROPER Award, which the company has maintained for two consecutive years. Additionally, in 2024, PTAR received the Best Award for Good Mining Practice (GMP) implementation, as well as seven EPSA 2024 awards.
