Strengthening environmental awareness among students has become a key focus in supporting sustainable education. On 16 October 2025, a socialisation of the Ministry of Environment Regulation Number 5 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of the Adiwiyata Programme was held, alongside a Training of Trainers (ToT) activity for Adiwiyata programme facilitators across 13 schools. This initiative aims to ensure that teachers and facilitators understand the Green Generation (Gen Hijau) extracurricular programme and can act as mentors for Adiwiyata student cadres in their respective schools.

The event, which was opened and closed at State Junior High School 1 Batang Toru, took place from 13–15 October 2025 and was held alternately across several schools by the Semut Merah mentoring team. The activities included the socialisation of the Minister of Environment Regulation No. 5 of 2025, a Training of Trainers (ToT) competition for Adiwiyata programme mentors, technical guidance for the Environmentally Aware and Cultured Movement in Schools (GPBLHS), and preparation strengthening towards Adiwiyata Mandiri. Meanwhile, students and Adiwiyata cadres received training on the Gen Hijau extracurricular ToT programme and environmental management, covering topics such as waste management, plant care, water and energy conservation, and greening innovations.
The activities were presented by representatives from the North Sumatra Provincial Environment and Forestry Office and marked the first time such a programme was held for Adiwiyata schools in North Sumatra. Other schools, including those managed by the Tapanuli Selatan Regency Environment Office, were also invited. During the programme, the Semut Merah team organised a microteaching competition for Adiwiyata programmes as an initial assessment stage, to be followed up in November through the submission of learning videos.
The Head of Environmental Protection and Management Division at the Environmental and Forestry Agency (DLHD) of South Tapanuli Regency, Herman S. Siregar, explained that this programme has a highly significant impact, namely shaping students’ character to be environmentally conscious and capable of contributing to environmental preservation, enabling them to become agents of change within their communities. The DLHD of South Tapanuli Regency expressed its appreciation to Agincourt Resources for providing guidance to 13 schools since 2023. He expressed his hope that this initiative will serve as a role model for other schools in South Tapanuli Regency.
The socialisation and training successfully fostered enthusiasm among schools and students in caring for the environment. Students have become more disciplined in sorting waste and demonstrate genuine concern for the cleanliness and sustainability of their school surroundings. With ongoing guidance, environmental values are expected to be firmly embedded as part of a sustainable Adiwiyata culture.
The schools participating in the programme included State Elementary School 100707 Perkebunan Batang Toru, State Elementary School 100712 Hapesong Lama, State Elementary School 100714 Garoga, State Elementary School 100715 Telo, SDS 100910 IT Faza Azkia, State Junior High School 1 Batang Toru, State Junior High School 2 Batang Toru, State Junior High School 1 Muara Batang Toru, State Junior High School 2 Muara Batang Toru, State Islamic Junior High School 3 Tapanuli Selatan, State Senior High School 1 Batang Toru, State Vocational High School 1 Batang Toru, and State Vocational High School 2 Batang Toru.
