Martabe Goes to School Encourages Young Generation to Use Social Media Wisely

Mar 31, 2026

Social media has become an integral part of everyday life, from sharing information and promoting businesses to seeking entertainment. However, irresponsible use of social media can pose risks such as the spread of misinformation (hoaxes), cyberbullying, and digital addiction. It is therefore essential for young people to use social media in a smart, responsible, and critical manner.

Through its Martabe Goes to School (MGTS) programme, Agincourt Resources organised an educational session themed “Using Social Media Wisely” on 31st March 2026 at SMK Negeri 1 Batang Toru. The activity was attended by 150 participants, comprising 130 students and 20 teachers.

In her opening remarks, Senior Supervisor Community Service, Nurhanifah Pulungan, stated that MGTS reflects Agincourt Resources’ commitment to promoting quality education through knowledge- and skills-sharing sessions with students.

During the session, Senior Supervisor Media Relations and Content Management Specialist, Gloria Natalia Dolorosa, together with Senior Supervisor Campaign and Event Management, Tia Manurung, highlighted the importance of using social media responsibly. In addition to explaining both the positive and negative impacts of social media, the speakers also shared practical ways to identify and counter misinformation commonly found across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X.

To ensure the session was engaging and interactive, participants also took part in a mini workshop on creating educational content, covering everything from developing content themes and visual ideas to crafting effective calls to action. This was complemented by interactive games designed to help participants distinguish between hoax and factual content, sharpening their ability to navigate the overwhelming flow of information on social media. The participants showed great enthusiasm throughout the approximately two-hour session. “This activity has given me new insights into how to use social media wisely. I am now more critical of the information I receive and feel motivated to use social media as a positive and creative platform. Thank you to Agincourt Resources for this valuable knowledge,” said Nadia Putri Hutagalung, an 11th-grade student of SMK Negeri 1 Batang Toru.
