Institutional Strengthening of Sukakeswan Drives Sustainable Local Livestock Development

The Training on Development and Strengthening of Sukakeswan (Sukarelawan Kesehatan Ternak) Institutions, held from Monday to Friday, July 8-12, 2024 at the Saung Tani Kelompok Mawar, Huta Godang Village, marked a significant milestone in enhancing the capacity and sustainability of livestock businesses in the Martabe Gold Mine operational area. The training was also conducted to improve the welfare of livestock breeders. 

Agincourt Resources Community Relations Manager Masdar Muda Hasibuan emphasized the importance of strengthening Sukakeswan institutions to ensure the sustainability of local livestock in his opening remarks. He stressed the need for collaboration with the South Tapanuli Agriculture Office in this endeavor. “Agincourt Resources is supporting this activity to enhance the capacity, skills, and experience of livestock breeders. We hope that the breeders will continue to demonstrate their enthusiasm and commitment after this training,” he stated. 

The training featured two expert speakers, Executive Director of the Association for the Advancement of Small Businesses (PUPUK) Bandung Cecep Kodir Jaelani and Chairwoman of the Regional Economic Development Foundation (Redef) Indonesia Santi Nining Susanti. The training covered a range of topics, including introduction to livestock types, 

institutional strengthening and its benefits, and teamwork. The training was attended by 13 livestock breeders from Batangtoru and Muara Batangtoru Subdistricts, representatives of the Napa Agricultural Extension Center (BPP), Agricultural Extension Officers (PPL), representatives of Kelompok Mawar, and students of the Marancar Agricultural Vocational School.

 The efforts of Agincourt Resources were welcomed by the Secretary of the South Tapanuli Agriculture Office, Muhammad Taufiq Batubara. “Agincourt Resources is the best partner that has provided a lot of support for activities to improve the quality of agriculture in this district. Strengthening Sukakeswan institutions is an important milestone. Let’s continue to synergize to support the advancement of livestock,” he remarked. 

Training participant Sugiman expressed that he learned a great deal from the activity, particularly about institutional management. Another breeder, Eka, shared that the training provided him with knowledge on feed making and how to build networks and connections with other breeders in Batangtoru and Muara Batangtoru.

In addition to the Sukakeswan Institutional Development and Empowerment Training, Agincourt Resources also organized a Field School on Pre-Artificial Insemination for Sukakeswan livestock from Monday to Thursday, July 1-4, 2024. The field school was also held at Saung Tani, Kelompok Mawar, Desa Huta Godang. The event was attended by three livestock breeders from Batangtoru and Muara Batangtoru, representatives of BPP Batangtoru, PPL, students of SMK Pertanian Marancar, and featured expert speakers in animal health, drh. Nometta, MPt, and animal feed expert Ir. F. Marolop Nababan. The training covered topics such as introduction to livestock types, feed management, grass fermentation practices, animal health management, and injection and medication administration practices for livestock.
