Signature Event! Agincourt Resources Launches Makkobar Cultural Performance to Revitalize South Tapanuli Heritage

In the spirit of Youth Pledge Day, Agincourt Resources successfully held the first South Tapanuli traditional cultural performance at Sopo Daganak, Napa Village, Batang Toru District on Monday, October 28, 2024. This event marks the beginning of the company’s efforts to preserve ancestral cultural heritage and strengthen community identity. 

The traditional performance, themed “With the Spirit of Youth Pledge Day, Continue to Preserve the Culture of South Tapanuli,” is the result of a good collaboration between Agincourt Resources, the South Tapanuli Arts Council (DKTS), the South Tapanuli Cross-Adat Communication Forum (Forkala), traditional figures, village government, and Batang Toru District.

One of the main attractions of this performance is the makkobar boru performance involving various elements of Dalihan Na Tolu kinship, such as suhut, kahanggi, anak boru, and others, from Wek III Village and Telo Village. In addition, the event was also enlivened by a Naposo Nauli Bulung fashion show competition and a collaboration of gordang sambilan music with traditional dances. 

 Agincourt Resources Senior Manager Community, Christine Pepah, said, “We hope this event can inspire the younger generation to appreciate and preserve their ancestral culture more. Makkobar is not just a tradition, but also a reflection of the noble values that we must jointly uphold,” she said.

 In line with Christine, South Tapanuli Assistant III, Syahrir Siregar, expressed his appreciation for Agincourt Resources’ initiative. “This event is very important to strengthen our cultural identity. We hope that events like this can continue and be an example for other regions,” he said. 

A representative of Wek III Village, Nelfan Efendi, expressed his deepest gratitude for the full support provided by Agincourt Resources. “We are very grateful for the support provided, both in terms of training and facilities,” said Nelfan.  The lively event was closed with the awarding of prizes to the Adat Makkobar participants from Telo Village and Wek III Village, as well as the announcement of the winners of the Fashion Show Competition. The first prize was won by a representative from Wek II Village, followed by Wek III Village in second place and Aek Pining in third place. Meanwhile, the Encouragement Prize I was from Tarapung Raya Village, the Encouragement Prize II from Padang Lancat Village, and the Encouragement Prize III from Muara Manompas Village.
