Agincourt Resources Empowers Sustainable Agricultural Practices in Direct Affected Villages

Agincourt Resources took a proactive step towards promoting sustainable agricultural practices in 15 Direct Affected Villages (DAVs) surrounding the mine by organizing a socialization and training event on sustainable agricultural cultivation. Held from Monday to Tuesday, May 6-7, 2024, in Sipenggeng Village, this initiative aimed to empower local farmers with the knowledge and skills to adopt eco-friendly and sustainable farming methods.

The event brought together 40 participants, including Agricultural Extension Workers (PPL) from the Napa and Manompas Agricultural Extension Agency (BPP), seed farmers for rice and corn, organic farmers, millennial farmers from Batangtoru and Muara Batangtoru, and millennial farmers cultivating chili peppers, shallots, and corn.

The first day of the event focused on evaluating land suitability for promising commodities. Prof. Rahmawaty, S.Hut., M.Si., PhD, and Dr.Ir. T. Irmansyah, M.P., from Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) presented the results of a land survey and provided insights into soil conditions, planting practices, cultivation behaviors, and fertilizer requirements per hectare.

On the second day, participants ventured into the fields to put into practice the appropriate land management techniques for corn, rice, chili peppers, and shallots. The USU expert team provided recommendations on suitable planting methods, fertilizer requirements, weather and climate factors, and intercropping or relay cropping practices for the cultivated commodities.

This event offered a wealth of knowledge and practical skills to the participants, empowering them to enhance their understanding of sustainable agricultural practices, select the most suitable crops for their land, implement appropriate land management techniques to boost yields, gain insights into fertilizer requirements and weather and climate factors, learn about intercropping or relay cropping methods to maximize land productivity.
