In today’s ever-evolving workforce, traditional gender boundaries in careers are rapidly dissolving. Anyone, regardless of gender, can now dream, create, and build their future, provided they are given the space, skills, and support to do so. This is the spirit championed by Agincourt Resources through its Make-Up Artist training program in Batang Toru Subdistrict, South Tapanuli, a tangible initiative to promote inclusive and equitable local economic empowerment.
Through this program, young people from villages surrounding the Martabe Gold Mine are given the opportunity to acquire practical skills in the beauty industry, particularly in bridal make-up, an increasingly in-demand profession that welcomes anyone, regardless of gender. One such inspiring story is that of Eka Sri Wahyuni, a young woman who once worked at a gas station. After completing the Make-Up Artist training in 2023, Eka has successfully established a bridal make-up business in Wek 1 Village. Her growing enterprise has brought significant improvements to her family’s economic wellbeing, making her a clear example of how women can lead and thrive in their chosen fields.

Another inspirational figure is Ardiansyah Sihombing. Born and raised in Wek II Subdistrict, Ardiansyah had long held a deep interest in fashion and beauty. However, limited access and financial constraints had kept his dreams on hold. That changed when he joined Agincourt Resources’ Make-Up Artist training, where he not only gained technical skills but also the confidence and foundation to begin his own entrepreneurial journey. For Ardiansyah, make-up is more than just a profession, it is a creative outlet and a pathway to a brighter future.
Participants of the Make-Up Artist program are not only equipped with technical know-how but are also guided to understand market potential, expand their networks, and promote their services across various platforms, from weddings and community events to professional photo sessions. The training also includes certification, which enhances their credibility and opens greater opportunities while nurturing the confidence to grow their own businesses independently.
Agincourt Resources firmly believes that when opportunities are distributed fairly, the ripple effects can be transformative. Any profession can be a gateway to independence, whether pursued by a woman or a man. All that’s needed is equal opportunity and real support, two elements that are increasingly shaping the emerging identity of Batang Toru.
