On Friday, October 18, 2024, Agincourt Resources once again organized the Martabe Goes to School (MGTS) program, this time targeting the students of SMK Negeri 2 Batang Toru. With the theme “Waste Management with the 3R Approach (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)”, the program aimed to raise students’ awareness about the importance of proper waste management. A total of 177 participants, consisting of 171 students and 6 teachers, attended the event. The session was led by representatives from the Agincourt Resources Environment Department, Field Assistant for Rehabilitation Iman Utomo and Field Assistant 1 for Rehabilitation Nurhasanah Harahap.
During the educational session, participants were introduced to the differences between organic waste (biodegradable) and non-organic waste (non-biodegradable), as well as the dangers of hazardous and toxic waste (B3). They were also introduced to the concept of residual waste, which is waste that is difficult to recycle due to technological limitations. “The waste we produce daily has a significant impact on the environment. Therefore, it is crucial for us to understand the types of waste and how to manage it properly,” said Iman Utomo in his presentation.

As a provincial-level Adiwiyata school, SMK Negeri 2 Batang Toru has a strong commitment to environmental preservation. The MGTS program aligns with the school’s efforts to create a clean and healthy environment.
Representing the Principal of SMK Negeri 2 Batang Toru and also an Adiwiyata teacher, Doni Kurniawan Nasution expressed his hope that through the MGTS program, students would apply the 3R concept in their daily lives. “In this way, our school can continue to progress and have the opportunity to achieve national-level Adiwiyata recognition,” he said.
Laung Lubis, Supervisor of Education at Agincourt Resources, explained that the MGTS program, which is conducted in various schools around the Martabe Gold Mine, aims to equip students with knowledge and skills in waste management. “By selecting 10th-grade students as participants, we hope they can become change agents in their school. They can share the knowledge they’ve gained and work together to create a greener school,” he added.
