The Lubuk Larangan in Hapesong Lama Village officially opened to the public on Sunday, January 12, 2025. This initiative is a tangible testament to the collaboration between Agincourt Resources and the Hapesong Lama Village government in preserving local biodiversity while upholding traditional wisdom.
The revitalization of Lubuk Larangan began in August 2024 with the formation of a dedicated committee. On September 10, 2024, 9,900 fish fry comprising jurung, carp, gourami, and tilapia were released into the river as part of conservation efforts. The event was witnessed by representatives from the South Tapanuli Fisheries Office, the Batang Toru District head, the Lubuk Larangan committee, and local community leaders.

Ahead of Ramadan 2025, Lubuk Larangan was officially opened to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., following a mutual agreement. News of the opening was disseminated to surrounding villages and even beyond Batang Toru subdistrict. For a fee of IDR 80,000, fishing enthusiasts could enjoy a full day of fishing.
On opening day, 207 participants joined, with an estimated total catch of 1.5 tons of fish. The event generated a total revenue of IDR 16,000,000, which is planned to be used for village development and aid for orphans and the elderly.
Masdar Muda Hasibuan, Manager of Community Relations at Agincourt Resources, highlighted the program’s significance: “Lubuk Larangan is not just a tradition; it is a strategy for sustainable living. By conserving the river’s biodiversity and strengthening local wisdom, we ensure that communities grow alongside their natural resources. This is a legacy we proudly support.”
Beyond its economic benefits, Lubuk Larangan plays a critical role in preserving the river’s ecosystem, raising community awareness of biodiversity importance, and preventing the extinction of local endemic fish species. It also reinforces the Lubuk Larangan adat institution as a cultural identity symbol that must be safeguarded.
The community and the government of Hapesong Lama Village expressed their appreciation and gratitude to Agincourt Resources for supporting the revitalization of the Lubuk Larangan tradition. This collaboration not only protects the environment but also lays a foundation in sustainability in future generations.
