Building Capacity, Strengthening Service: Empowering Cadres of Posyandu

Sep 18, 2025

Improving the quality of public health services relies not only on medical facilities but also on the people who dedicate themselves behind the scenes. In Batang Toru and Muara Batang Toru, cadre of posyandu play a vital role in ensuring basic health services continue to reach communities, even in remote areas. This spirit underpinned the initiative by Agincourt Resources, in collaboration with Batang Toru and Hutaraja Public Health Centres (Puskesmas), to conduct a capacity-building programme for cadres of posyandu from 15th to 18th September 2025.

This activity involved 24 mentor cadres, 70 trained cadres, and four healthcare workers from the community health centre. Over the course of five days, a series of learning sessions were designed to strengthen the cadres’ competencies in carrying out health service duties at the community level.

The activities began with a roadshow to seven posyandus as part of the monitoring and evaluation process of the ongoing programmes. Through these visits, cadres received direct feedback to improve and enhance their service approaches. The following day, a public speaking workshop was conducted for both senior and new supervisory cadres to improve their communication and health education skills when engaging with the community.

In addition, a training session on the use of medical instruments was held for guided cadres, enabling them to perform basic health checks more effectively in their respective posyandu. The entire series of activities concluded with the Festival Kader Pembina, which brought together all posyandu cadres in a celebration of collaboration, appreciation, and shared learning. The festival served as both recognition of the cadres’ dedication and reflection on their vital role in strengthening community health in Batang Toru and Muara Batang Toru.

Through this initiative, Agincourt Resources reaffirms its commitment to continuously support the capacity-building of posyandu cadres as part of its efforts to sustain community-based health services. The programme also reinforces a shared understanding that health services are not only about treatment, but also about empowering the people who make them possible.
