Biodiversity is a crucial asset for maintaining ecosystem balance and ensuring the continuity of life on Earth. Various species of flora and fauna play vital roles in sustaining natural stability, making the preservation of wildlife and their habitats a top priority amid threats such as environmental degradation and illegal wildlife trade.
A concrete step in wildlife conservation is the collaboration between the Scorpion Macaque Rescue Center and Agincourt Resources, focusing on the protection of primates and their habitats in Sumatra.

The macaque, or long-tailed monkey, is a primate with significant ecological roles. Its presence supports natural seed dispersal, aiding forest regeneration, while also maintaining balance within the ecosystem’s food chain. However, macaque populations are vulnerable to pressures from human activities, making protection and rehabilitation essential.

The Scorpion Macaque Rescue Center adopts a systematic approach to primate rescue and rehabilitation, which includes:
- Rescue – the evacuation of animals from conditions that threaten their safety.
- Rehabilitation – provision of medical care and behavioural recovery to enable survival in the wild.
- Release – returning animals to safe and suitable natural habitats.
- Education – raising public awareness about the importance of conservation and wildlife protection.
This approach ensures that rescued animals are not only saved but also prepared to live independently in their natural environment.
The private sector plays a crucial role in supporting wildlife and habitat conservation. Agincourt Resources contributes to the programme through:
- Provision of funding and facilities for rehabilitation activities.
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes focusing on environmental conservation and education.
- Collaboration with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and government bodies to ensure the sustainability of conservation efforts.
Collaborative efforts in wildlife and habitat conservation provide strategic benefits, including:
- Reducing illegal wildlife trade.
- Restoring primate populations in their natural habitats.
- Raising public awareness of the importance of biodiversity.
The preservation of biodiversity is a shared responsibility. With ongoing support from various stakeholders, wildlife and their habitats can be safeguarded, ensuring that future generations continue to enjoy the richness and balance of Sumatra’s natural heritage.
