Sharpening Skills, Building Independence: Agincourt Resources Encourages Nail Art Creativity

Aug 4, 2025

Agincourt Resources held nail art training programme from August 4th – 7th 2025 at Sopo Daganak, Napa Village. Nail art, the craft of decorating nails with colours, patterns, and additional embellishments has become an increasingly sought-after skill and a promising creative business opportunity. This programme aimed to equip local community groups with new skills to enhance productivity and foster greater independence in entrepreneurship.

The training was attended by 15 participants, consisting of Agincourt Resources’ assisted henna artists as well as new participants from Batang Toru and Muara Batang Toru sub-districts.

The first day focused on basic nail care, such as pedicures, manicures, and gel polish application on natural nails. On the second day, participants learned advanced decoration techniques, including French nails, lines, dotting, ombré, and marble nails. The third day covered more complex skills, such as nail accessory (ACC) placement and 3D flower creation. The final session was dedicated to comprehensive practice, where each participant produced a full set of artificial nails incorporating all the techniques learned.

The event was opened by Superintendent of Local Economic Development (LED), Yandi Rama Krisna, and closed by the Manager of Community Development, Rohani Simbolon. In her remarks, Rohani highlighted the importance of friendly and professional service:

“In the nail artist profession, friendly and attentive service is essential. With today’s home service trend, we need to offer service excellence that sets us apart. Use social media to promote your work so your business becomes more visible. Keep practising at home to refine your skills and remain competitive in the market,” she said.

Kaliaman, a participant from Terapung Raya Village, Muara Batang Toru sub-district, expressed appreciation for the programme. “This training broadened my knowledge and skills in creating artificial nails. I hope this ability will help increase my income as a henna and nail artist. I look forward to future training on cat eye techniques,” she said.

Another participant, Sinta Devi, a nail artist supported by Agincourt Resources from Aek Pining Village, expressed that the nail art training had been highly beneficial in enhancing her skills and competencies. “In my view, training like this is greatly needed, particularly for Henna techniques. I am truly grateful to Agincourt Resources for organising this advanced training for us. I hope that in the future, Agincourt Resources will once again provide training focused on the art of Henna,” she stated. The business potential of nail art in Indonesia is evident. One success story is Naels Mates, a home-based nail art start-up that began with a capital of IDR 78 million. Its first outlet in South Jakarta achieved a turnover of IDR 60 million, and the business has now grown to six outlets with a total turnover exceeding IDR 150 million. This illustrates that well-managed skills can open the door to significant business opportunities.
