Exploring the Rocks, Expanding Geological Insights

Apr 30, 2026

Learning about rocks and geology is no longer limited to textbooks in the classroom. Through the Martabe Goes to School programme, Agincourt Resources invited students to gain a closer understanding of mining geology, from the exploration process to the production stages at the Martabe Gold Mine.

Held on 30th April 2026 at the hall of SMA Negeri 1 Batang Angkola, the activity featured Agincourt Resources’ Senior Geologist Exploration, Rahmat Sinambela, as the speaker. A total of 163 participants, consisting of the school principal, teachers, and students, attended the session with great enthusiasm.

During the presentation session, students were introduced to various geological rock types found within the Martabe Gold Mine area, including exploration processes, mining stages, and how geologists identify rocks containing certain mineral deposits. Beyond theory, students were also given the opportunity to directly observe different rock forms and characteristics through an interactive practical session.

Students’ enthusiasm was evident throughout the activity. They actively raised various questions, ranging from how rocks are formed to how gold-bearing rocks can be identified. The learning atmosphere became even more engaging through direct interaction between the students and the speaker.

Vice Principal for Curriculum Affairs of SMA Negeri 1 Batang Angkola, Nini Adriyana Hasibuan, stated that the activity was highly beneficial in broadening students’ knowledge of geology and the mining industry. According to her, learning experiences such as this could also help students discover their interests and potential for pursuing further education in related fields.

One of the students, Gerson Lingon Sitompul, shared that the activity helped answer many of his questions regarding rocks and mining processes. He also considered the experience valuable for students interested in continuing their studies in geology.

Meanwhile, Senior Supervisor Community Services of Agincourt Resources, Nurhanifah Pulungan, expressed hope that the programme would broaden young people’s perspectives on geology and the mining industry in a more positive and educational way.

This initiative aims to foster interactive and inspiring learning spaces for the younger generation, while introducing the world of mining and geology more closely to the community.

The curiosity nurtured today may become the first step towards shaping a future generation that is ready to learn, grow, and contribute through knowledge and science.
